We often say that incidents in life make you wiser….i certainly believe in the notion and have experienced the same over the past month….

I would not say that my life is perfect or anything…but i believe that everything happens for the best…enough to shake you out of your comfort zone and bring you to reality and thank the creator for all the blessings given in small forms…

Recently I met with an accident, it was a Saturday morning 20 Nov 2010 around 9am, I was riding my two wheeler to office humming songs while riding at a speed of 40km/hr….had left my residence around 8.45am and reached the Int Canteen area just as i was about to take a left turn, a Maruti SX4 zoomed past me… i was pretty slow at the turning and then continued riding…thanking god that people zoom at such high speeds….even on turns…little did i know that the same Maruti SX4 would spell darkness….just as I turned the corner….and started to move ahead….this car breaked from a speed of 70 to almost zero as pigs appeared suddenly in front of the car …little time for reaction and a wet road i couldn’t speed break…thus my bike rammed into the dickie of the car…the impact was so severe that i flew off the two wheeler with the bike skidding on the ground (as the front portion of the bike had rammed into the car…the handle of the bike hit me and i got hurt and fell with the impact)…..little did i know what happened…the next thing i knew was shivering on the ground….the people around immediately gathered and helped me up….thereafter they asked if i could call my parents…i said yes…

The guy whose car i had rammed into came and helped me call my parents…luckily both mom and dad were at home….so i said to them i met with an accident….they came rushing and helped me collect myself…thereafter we went to MH….for a checkup….its usually difficult to assess the damage caused in an accident till atleast a few hours after the accident ( rule of thumb learnt from my dad, who is a surgeon himself, we feel the effects of an injury after 6-8 hrs of the incident). Little did i know where all i got hurt….i was walking with a limp….and had bruises on my left arm, right foot, knee and a few other regions….

Thereafter, i was under observation to see if i had not got hurt in any critical regions…the doctor had taken a few xrays and then i left for home…after a two day rest period…i rejoined work…i had the effect of the bruises…but luckily escaped any sort of major injury…however, i could not walk straight as i thought that i had a muscle tear near my right knee…from my past experience, the muscle takes around 15 days to heal so i avoided physical activity….however, with a bit of exertion…i noticed that there was some sort of internal bleeding taking place…as i informed the doctor about it…he said you should take bed rest as there was some artery or vein…that was ruptured and needed healing.. in addition to that i had also cracked a bit of my knee cap….i thought the recovery would take place on its own…after a few days i discovered that i had started to develop a few clots around the region which increased in size….when i walked and experienced jabbing pain….when i told this to my doctor….he said you foolish girl you need to rest…the clot was exterting pressure on a nerve and had reduced blood supply to my leg with my toes remaining sore….i couldn’t walk without feeling pain….in case the blood clot didn’t cease to grow further…the doctor said he would have to operate it…i was a bit worried…but i didn’t know….

As per his instructions, i took bed rest and was not permitted to move around at all….so bed rest it was…. for the coming 10-15 days….the healing was supposed to take place 21 days in all….no doubt i enjoyed being pampered…..served in bed….breakfast…lunch dinner…and anything i wanted…however…the irritating part was that i couldn’t walk at all….do nothing more that lie down….boring….at times and irritating that i had to depend on someone for everything…

However, after a week, when i visited the doctor he was happy to see some progress…however, the clot subsided a bit not too much….i wish he had put a cast around it…however, he refrained from putting a cast… he said …”beta if i put a cast you will have it for 45 days….and it will take you one and  a half month to come back in full functioning of your leg….so bear the pain and keep your knee elevated….”…how easy it is for them to say so….

However, after 20 days for the first time i could walk without a limp…..straight…. a bit of pain…however, a feeling of joy swept me off my feet when i could walk straight….i was overjoyed….and ecstatic….my doctor told me….walk in the house but don’t strain….am going to try walking down the stairs on the coming saturday…lets see if that goes well i will be able to walk normally again….however, it will take 6 months for my leg and the knee to come back to normal….functioning….like brisk walking….running or jogging…..

Little did i know that a small part of the body known as a “knee” could disrupt one’s life and cause so much trouble….curious to understand what had gone wrong with me….i did a “google search” to find out the mechanics of the knee…to my knowledge….the knee is the most complex muscle in the whole body…its got bones plus muscles intermingled….and bears the weight of the whole body….thus a simple flex of the knee normally that we take for granted became a challenge for me….

Thus simple things that we take for granted in our daily life….today i realised that are gifts of the creator….when they function normally we are rarely bothered….but a simple disruption can bring the whole world crashing down…..
